A New Standard for Low Deflection Temporary Barrier Protection

Saferoads is proud to announce that the HV2 Minimum Deflection System (MDS) Safety Barrier has been successfully assessed by the Austroads Safety Barrier Assessment Panel (ASBAP) to 100km/h and has also been approved for use on the New South Wales classified road network by Transport for NSW.

This achievement marks an important milestone for Saferoads and reinforces our commitment to delivering innovative road safety solutions that help protect road workers, motorists and critical infrastructure.

The HV2 MDS Barrier builds upon the proven performance of the Saferoads’ HV2 Barrier by incorporating a specialised anchoring system that significantly reduces movement during vehicle impact. The system uses a patented hybrid barrier design and approved anchor assembly at every 5.8 metre joint, delivering enhanced stability while maintaining the practical benefits expected from temporary barrier installations.

Designed for High-Risk, Constrained Work Zones

Temporary traffic management environments often present unique challenges. In locations where available space is limited and traditional temporary barriers cannot provide adequate protection, the HV2 MDS Barrier offers a practical alternative.

The system has been successfully tested to MASH TL-3 requirements and is approved for use at speeds of up to 100km/h. ASBAP's assessment confirmed the barrier's ability to provide industry leading performance, with a tested dynamic deflection of just 0.12m, and a working width of 0.69m.

Key benefits include:

  • MASH TL-3 approved
  • ASBAP approval to 100km/h
  • Low dynamic deflection of just 0.12m
  • Narrow 450mm system width
  • Working width of 0.69m
  • Fast deployment and retrieval
  • High containment and controlled vehicle redirection
  • Compatible with various end treatments

This makes the HV2 MDS Barrier particularly suited to narrow work zones, bridge projects, urban infrastructure upgrades and other constrained environments where workers and roadside hazards require closer protection.

Saferoads is Supporting Safer Work Zones Across Australia

As work zones continue to become more complex and space constraints more common, infrastructure owners and contractors need solutions that maximise protection without compromising operational efficiency. The approval of the HV2 MDS Barrier provides project teams with a trusted product option for achieving positive protection in challenging environments while maintaining compliance with evolving road safety requirements.
